Fragile States was curated by Make Space, an artist-run online platform and curatorial initiative that explores the practices of experimental contemporary artists. Its mission is to expand the public understanding of the artistic practice by investigating a diversity of art making and conceptual concerns as well as the condition of being an artist today. Make Space has curated exhibitions at MDW Fair 2012 at Mana Contemporary Chicago, ACRE Projects, and Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space in New York. Make Space was part of the ACRE Curatorial Board in 2014 and 2015.
This exhibition was curated by Lynnette Miranda, Etta Sandry, and Kathy Cho.
ACRE (Artists’ Cooperative Residency and Exhibitions) is an artist-run non-profit based in Chicago devoted to employing various systems of support for emerging artists and to creating a generative community of cultural producers. ACRE investigates and institutes models designed to help artists develop, present, and discuss their practices by providing forums for idea exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experimental projects.
